The world is in a state of panic. A mysterious virus has popped up in our world, forcing most of us to start working from home. I always felt like productivity was my worst enemy. And being productive at home? Puh-lease. I was scrolling Instagram all day! I could never seem to grasp that accomplished feeling that I was craving………
until I started implementing these tips.
Tip #1: GET READY FOR THE DAY
Act as if you still are going to work every day. When you get up, get ready for the day. If you stay in your pajamas, there’s a big chance that you will feel lazier than usual, and you won’t get as much work done. So show up for yourself! Act as if it’s totally normal to be in work clothes at home. This will create a pattern in your mind that says “when I have these clothes on, it’s work time”. In turn, this will program your mind to know that even though you’re home, work still needs to get done.
Tip #2: WAKE UP AT THE SAME TIME
Going hand in hand with the last tip, make sure you’re also waking up at the same time. This not only keeps your body in the groove of things, but you already have routines set up for yourself. This keeps you on a consistent schedule and doesn’t make you start from scratch. This is how exhaustion can set in. Since your body is already acclimated to waking up at a certain time, keep it in that routine! This will also be a great help for when you get to go back to work.
Tip #3: PUT THE PHONE DOWN
We all know that when it comes to our phones, there is no self-control (and if there is, you are a very special human). So if you’re like me and can’t help but check Instagram every 5 minutes, then do yourself a favor and PUT YOUR PHONE DOWN. Hide it, throw it across the room, stuff it in a drawer. Do whatever you need to do so that your phone is out of your sight.
Tip #4: TURN OFF THE WIFI
Okay, you might think I’m being crazy here, but hear me out. I heard this tip from a YouTuber and it CHANGED MY LIFE. This tip might or might not work depending on what exactly you’re doing, but it’s worth a shot. If you need to edit a video, write a paper, or just hunker down and focus, it might be a good idea to turn your wifi off, or at least put your computer in airplane mode. This way, no notifications can pop up, and you won’t be tempted to check your Facebook via the interwebs.
Tip #5: MOVE YOUR BODY
This is MAJOR. In this crazy time, make sure you’re taking care of yourself!! I always seem to put myself on the back-burner, but since I’ve been home I’ve been moving my body in some way, every day. I went running, I took walks, I had dance parties by myself. Something is better than nothing! Take it one day at a time and make sure you’re doing something to fill up your cup!
So there you have it! My Top 5 Tips for being productive at home. Was there anything I missed that’s on your list? Let me know below!!
With love,
Sam
