17 Things To Do If You’re Stuck In A Rut

When sitting down to write this post, I stared blankly at the screen. So how fitting it is that I am writing about this topic.

Ruts are not something that you can just get out of for life. They follow you. The best thing you can do is just accept that it happens and life moves on. There’s no reason to feel bad about yourself. You’re human! Celebrate that.

Things that you can do to help get out of a rut/creative block are:

  • Get up from your chair
  • Move your body
  • Go for a walk/run
  • Listen to music
  • Write in a journal
  • Go watch an episode of a show
  • Take a snack break
  • Or, go eat that meal that you were about to skip
  • Put on makeup
  • Take a shower (the best thoughts happen in the shower and you know it)
  • Make a funny TikTok
  • Talk with some friends
  • Do a face mask
  • Change your clothes
  • Clean your space
  • Drink some water
  • Open your window

These are just some things to help get you into a difference headspace. The most important thing to do when you’re in a creative rut is to do a PATTERN INTERRUPT.

This means that you need to change your state of being within the next 5 seconds. If you’re sitting, you need to stand up. Jump around. Throw on some music. Make your environment drastically different than the one you were just in. This helps your mind to decipher that you’re in a new physical state, and thus, new ideas can flow freely.

Are there any things that you do that aren’t on this list? Let me know!!

With love,

Sam
